Academics are obviously a huge part of that, and our teachers always prioritize making learning fun. It is also important, however, that students take time spent out of the classroom. Whether it is taking part in school-wide events, grade- or class-specific activities, clubs, field trips, academic competitions or charitable endeavors, the children are given every opportunity to enjoy a favorite pursuit or discover a new one.
Some of the most highly anticipated days of the year are those on which annual school events are scheduled. These activities can build cooperation and teamwork (Field Day), give them a chance to present their passion for music and acting or simply be a fun time to enjoy with classmates (Movie Night & Upper School Dance). Whatever the occasion, it is sure to be well received and well attended.
As an active member of our local community, Nysmith is committed to supporting those in our area who need help. Throughout the school year, we host a variety of community service events, some run by our PTO (Parent-Teacher Organization) and others organized by students. The causes are as vary and include the Special Olympics “Make The Point” Fundraiser, Toys for Tots, Thanksgiving Food Drive and many others.
The academic instruction ends at 3:00; your child’s education does not. The Nysmith School offers a wide variety of teacher-led extracurricular activities, and we are confident that students at any grade level will find one or more to pursue. These include everything from scholastic-academic clubs to popular culture to sports and recreation. Although Nysmith does not field competitive sports teams, we believe recreational outlets are part of our mission to provide a well-balanced educational experience for students.
