Welcome to The Nysmith School, where we make a world-class education a joyful experience. That is our mission statement, but more importantly, it is what our teachers, administrators and staff are dedicated to accomplishing, and what we have achieved for the better part of four decades.
Beginning in Kindergarten, students change classrooms with each subject, and therefore are taught by teachers who are equally prolific and passionate about the subjects they teach. And because Nysmith teachers teach the grades and the subjects they love, they are always finding new and creative ways to introduce your child to content and explore it more deeply. That spirit of innovation and excitement produces an atmosphere in which your child will not only learn more but will also love the instructional process.
Our teachers enjoy being at The Nysmith School, engaging with such eager, motivated and happy children. Their appreciation of those student attributes are reflected in our low teacher turnover rate and long average tenure. More than half of our teachers have been with us for more than 10 years!

There’s one way to fully appreciate what those words mean, and how we have succeeded in making good on that goal. Consider that the school is and always has been family-owned and operated. My mother founded it almost 40 years ago, and I have worked here in a variety of roles since 1985, serving as everything from janitor, bus driver, bookkeeper, accountant, chief financial officer, vice principal, communications director, and since 2005, as head of school. I am proud and protective of the reputation Nysmith has worked so hard to achieve and maintain, but it is even more important that all of us remain dedicated to ensuring that our mission statement is delivered to every one of our students.
So, while my name may be on the building, it is the people inside who make it such a remarkable place for children to learn. We have a team of dedicated and committed teachers and administrators that have created an academic environment unlike any other. These educators are as experienced as they are exceptional, sustaining a continuity that enhances the education our students receive.
