COMMUNITY

Parent Involvement

Nysmith’s Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) blends the enthusiasm and effort of parents, teachers and school administrators to form an active group.

The PTO often invites subject-specific experts and practitioners to speak on various topics related to parenting in general and a child’s education in particular. The PTO also supports a variety of school-wide community service events, including the Toys For Tots Drive, Book Fair, Helping Hands and Field Day, that generate meaningful donations to those organizations and/or individuals in need.

EVENTS

The PTO’s donation of time reflects its commitment to help build a strong community in which we live and work. The support with the variety of the school-wide events with the assistance of the school means the world to our students. Truth be told, Nysmith has such a large number of parents participating that we sometimes have more than enough volunteers for an event and therefore can invite families to come simply to see their children taking part in the wonderful community activities.

SPEAKERS

Each month, the PTO organizes speakers to come in and discuss topics relevant to parents, having to do with general parenting issues or specific to how to maximize their child’s educational experience. These knowledgeable presenters cover a wide range of subjects; recent events have dealt with healthy eating, internet safety, executive function skills and many other helpful topics.

Parent Ambassador Program

Our Parent Ambassadors (PA) act as a resource for both new and existing Nysmith families to ask questions and receive guidance on how the school can be most helpful. PA members can be seen at many of our events and they are happy to answer any school-related questions you want to ask.
