OPTIONAL PROGRAMS

Designed Around The Needs Of Your Family

At Nysmith School, we recognize that each family’s needs are as unique as their child’s educational journey. That’s why we’ve cultivated a tradition of convenience, reflected in our suite of optional programs designed to support and simplify your family’s daily routine. Whether it’s ensuring your child has a safe and reliable ride to school, providing lunch options, or offering flexible childcare solutions, we’re here to accommodate you.

These programs are designed to be as flexible and accommodating as possible, aligning with our dedication to supporting the work-life balance of our Nysmith families. Our commitment to these services is just one aspect of our approach to education and community care. We pride ourselves on creating an environment where logistical worries are alleviated, allowing families to focus on what truly matters – the growth and development of their children.

Bus Transportation

Bus service to and from The Nysmith School is available; bus routes run in Leesburg, Vienna and Great Falls. For families living outside of Fairfax or Loudoun counties, we offer free bus transportation if you are able to meet a Nysmith School bus on a regularly scheduled route. For more information on route pick-up points and pricing, please contact our Admissions Office.

SCHOOL LUNCHES

Nysmith students have the option of bringing lunch from home or participating in the school lunch program. Our school lunches are provided daily by local restaurants and offer a variety of healthy and delicious food options, including both vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals. Students can opt-in to the lunch program for any one or more days at the time of enrollment. The price of lunch varies by day and vendor, but typically runs between $3–$7 per day.

Extended care

Our Extended Care (EC) program, which is available to students in all grades, allows parents to drop off children before school starts in the morning and/or have them remain there after the regular school day ends. It is among the most popular benefits we offer Nysmith families and is one that gives them the comfort level of knowing their youngsters are safe and secure for the entire day.

EC PROGRAM DETAILS

  • A.M. Care is provided from 7:00 to 8:00 a.m.

  • Transition Care (2:30-3:00 p.m.) is for Beginners and PreK students with older siblings and/or who are dismissed at 2:30 and must wait until 3:00 for bus transportation home.

  • P.M. Care runs from 3:00 to 6:30 p.m.
Drop-in Extended Care is also available. Parents are encouraged to let the school know in advance when their children will be participating.

Note to Parents

Extended Care does not operate on Federal Government holidays, when the Federal Government is closed due to inclement weather or during summer break. On days when Fairfax County schools and The Nysmith School are closed but the Federal Government is open, our EC is open on a 8 a.m.–5 p.m. schedule.
