On Saturday, February 7, Nysmith students delivered an outstanding performance at the Fairfax Chapter MATHCOUNTS Competition, tackling a rigorous series of events including the Sprint Round (30 problems), Target Round (8 problems), and Team Round (10 problems).
The Nysmith team—Nishank S., Vikram M., Sanjay N., and Noah N.—earned an impressive 2nd place overall, securing a spot at the state competition at Virginia Tech in March. Individually, all four team members ranked in the top 10, highlighting their exceptional mathematical ability.
In the highly competitive Countdown Round, both Nishank and Vikram advanced, with Vikram finishing in the top eight and Nishank earning 2nd place overall.
Additional participants Aria S., Rishik D., Razi D., Antong L., Chloe Y., Addison G., and Emerson G. also represented Nysmith with strong performances. Notably, Aria and Rishik placed in the top 25% of competitors.
We are incredibly proud of all our students for their dedication, perseverance, and success in this challenging competition!
In addition to their division win, the team was honored with the prestigious Ranatra Fusca Award for Creativity, a distinction awarded to only 3 teams out of 159 participants. This recognition highlights their exceptional originality, problem-solving, and innovative thinking.
We are incredibly proud of their achievement and look forward to seeing their continued success in future competitions!
