Congratulations are in order for the Nysmith Science Olympiad (SO) team! Over the weekend our SO team brought back medals for 11 out of the 21 events held during the competition, and a third place trophy for our school from the Virginia Science Olympiad Regional Tournament in Charlottesville, VA. Our Science Olympiad team came in third out of fifteen participating schools and placed: first in the Potions and Poisons event, second in the Anatomy and Physiology event, third in both the Herpetology and Optics events, and fourth in the Microbe Mission and Battery Buggy events. The SO team also came in fifth place for the following four events: Experimental Design, Thermodynamics, Hovercraft, and Towers, and sixth place for the Ecology event.

In addition to the medals received, our Nysmith Science Olympiad team placed seventh in the Dynamic Planet, Road Scholar, and Write It Do It events, eighth in Fast Facts and Wright Stuff, ninth in Meteorology, and tenth place in the Mystery Architecture and Rocks and Minerals events. On top of the medals won for the events, our Nysmith students impressed the judges and brought back a sportsmanship award for helping a competing team by lending them a beaker and pH paper!
