May 2025 – Victories At State Math Competitions

Nysmith Students Excel at DMV Math Tournament and Math League State Championship

Fifth graders Aalia K., Hugo R., and Noah N. competed as the Denominator Dominators at the DMV Math Tournament 2025, held at Rosa Lee Carter Elementary School. The team earned an impressive 2nd place finish in the 5th Grade Division. Among individual honors, Noah and Hugo placed 4th and 10th respectively, with Noah also placing 3rd in the knockout round—a fast-paced, head-to-head problem-solving challenge.

Just a week later, Nysmith students continued their winning streak at the Math League Elementary School Virginia State Championship, held on May 3rd. Third graders Nathan Y. and Jacob G., and fifth graders Chloe Y., Hugo R., and Noah N. represented the school and took first place overall, earning the opportunity to represent Virginia at the National Championship in June. Nathan and Jacob placed 1st and 2nd individually among third graders, while Noah, Hugo, and Chloe placed 2nd, 5th, and 6th in the fifth-grade category.
