May 2021: A Sweeping Success in Physical Science

A total of nine Nysmith students earned awards at this weekend’s Northern Virginia Elementary & Middle School Science and Engineering Fair, including three 6th-8th graders who swept the top three honors in the “Physical Science” category.

6th grader Sarah-Noor Jamani’s “Water, Water Everywhere and Not a Drop to Drink” project took 1st place followed by 8th grader Kavya Velaga (“Shine Bright”) in second and 7th grader Veera Anand (“Weapon Detection System Using Artificial Intelligence”) in third.

7th grader Babiha Bakshi’s “Nanotechnology to the Rescue” won first place in the 6th-8th grade “Life & Earth Science” (L & ES) category while 5th grader Wyatt Steel’s “Bacteria: The Inside Story of Your Mouthwash” took second in L & ES for grades 4 & 5.
