March 2025 – Triumph at Philhistorian Invitational

Nysmith Debate Club’s Triumph at Philhistorian Invitational

The Nysmith Debate Club had a standout performance at the Philhistorian Invitational Bay Area Championship, competing against 560 students from over 33 schools nationwide. Representing Nysmith with confidence and poise, Om K. and Aria S. earned first place in the Middle School Public Forum Division, showcasing exceptional preparation, critical thinking, and teamwork.

The tournament centered around a timely and complex topic: “Do the benefits of generative artificial intelligence in education outweigh the harms?” Om and Aria’s thoughtful arguments, deep analysis, and persuasive delivery helped them rise to the top in this highly competitive field.

This is more than just a tournament win—it reflects the strength of the Nysmith Debate Program and the value of debate as a tool for developing public speaking, analytical reasoning, and leadership skills. We’re proud to celebrate their achievement and look forward to what’s next for our young debaters!
