March 2022: VEX Robotics Teams Qualify for World Championship in May

A total of 10 Nysmith students on four different teams at this past weekend’s VEX Virginia State competition received awards for their performances and qualified for the World Championships to be held in May. Kudos to the following students for their excellent showing:

●The Savage Bots, featuring Giovanni Eastman, Arjun Nayyar and Max Ritter, captured both the Skills Award (highest combined points in driver skills & autonomous mode) and Excellence Award, the latter given to the team that exemplifies overall excellence in building a high-quality robotics program.

●The Banana Bots—made up of Sohum & Swaha Iyer, Minal Matai and Max Krauskopf—won multiple competition awards to earn their spot in the worlds. The team took top honors in teamwork challenge, robot skills and autonomous programming.

●Rising Phoenix, a two-time winner of the Virginia state championship, took home the Teamwork Challenge Champion Award and the Design Award (most effective & efficient robot design), thanks to the efforts of 7th graders Samantha Li and Helena Zhai.

●The Vex Revolution, a team that includes Nysmith’s Max Kerzner, finished in second place in the state competition and also qualified for the world event in May.
