Science Fair
Each year, our Science Fair gives students the opportunity to explore a question they’re genuinely curious about—and learn how real inquiry works. From forming a hypothesis to designing an experiment and presenting results, students build research skills, critical thinking, and confidence. The fair is also a celebration: families are invited to walk through projects, ask questions, and see students proudly explain what they discovered.

During Robotics Week, our students explore the exciting world of robots through hands-on, age-appropriate activities. They learn how robots work, what they can do, and how they operate—sparking curiosity and early problem-solving in a fun, memorable way.
Overnight Trips
Overnight Trips
Starting in the upper grades, our overnight trips take learning beyond the classroom and into the places that shaped what students are studying. Whether they’re exploring Gettysburg, experiencing the energy of New York City, or walking through historic Philadelphia, each trip is intentionally tied to the curriculum—so the history, literature, and big ideas students have been learning become real, memorable, and deeply meaningful.
Career Week
Career Week
In Upper School, Career Week is built around panel-style conversations rather than a full day of individual speakers. Each panel focuses on a specific field—whether that’s medicine, law enforcement, civil service, AI, or another area of interest—so students can hear multiple perspectives at once. Students come prepared with questions and have time for real dialogue: what speakers love about their work, what’s challenging, how they got started, and the practical steps students can take to begin exploring a path and “get their foot in the door.”

International Week is a joyful celebration of our community and the many cultures represented at Nysmith. Parents and grandparents visit to share traditions, customs, and stories, helping students learn to appreciate differences and build a sense of belonging and respect for others.

Field Day is a favorite tradition that brings the whole community together for an afternoon of energy, teamwork, and fun. Students participate in friendly competitions and team challenges that emphasize sportsmanship, encouragement, and school spirit. It’s the perfect reminder that joy, community, and play are an important part of growing—and learning—together.
