Standardized Testing Results

Since 2000, Nysmith students’ scores on The Iowa Tests have put The Nysmith School in the top 1% of schools nationwide consistently.

We don’t teach to the test.  We spend only a week preparing the students for the test.

Our teachers’ passion for their subject area is infectious and motivates and inspires the students.  Our hands-on, engaging approach keeps students interested and stimulates their innate curiosity and love of learning.

They are able to absorb and understand the material because they are having fun while they are learning.

Another notable achievement — as you will see on the test scores below, our 4th graders’ average scores are equivalent to the average 7th or 8th grader’s scores on the tests; and our 6th graders score between a 10th-grade and college-age level.

This is a good reflection of how amazing Nysmith teachers are and how they have the flexibility to teach at the students’ level and pace.  With two teachers in every classroom who have the latitude to adapt the curriculum to keep the students motivated and engaged, the children absolutely thrive.

For those not familiar with The Iowa Tests, they are nationally normed standardized tests that offer educators a diagnostic look at how their students are progressing in key academic areas.

The test is used by some states and a large number of private schools to measure grade-level performance.

Available for K-12, The Iowa Tests allow educators to trace student achievement growth continuously, and the interpreted scores and research data the test provides aid school teachers in improving the effectiveness of their methods.
