Camp Friendship

This years annual Nysmith teambuilding trip was to Camp Friendship. Located on a 700+ acre facility near Palmyra, Virginia, Camp Friendship offered a lot to this years 6th and 7th graders.

The trip started off with a two hour bus ride, made bearable by playing of video tapes during the trip.
On arrival we toted our gear from the drop-off point near the girls cabins to our respective cabins. We then gathered at the flag-pole near the dining hall for an introduction by Anakah, one of our camp counselors. After getting the routine for using the dining hall facilities, we went in to our first meal.

Some of the high point of the activities included…

  • The first night campfire, especially Liz’s rendition of ‘Aroostashaw’, not to mention the ‘smores’.
  • Ropes course, low ropes for 6th graders, high ropes for 7th graders.
  • Tracking and signs, especially the casts we made of animal tracks.
  • The night hike, with a lot of information about vision (and how Certs spark in the dark!).
  • Canoe trip, Archery, Tennis, Flashlight tag…
  • The water activities on Wednesday afternoon, including an into-the-water zip wire and a ‘Tarzan’ swing.

Special thanks to Dr. McMahon and Ms. Webb, leaders for the trip. And another to the parent chaperons, without whom the trip would not have been possible!

If I left out YOUR favorite part (and I may have in this short a space), please e-mail me with a few sentences and I’ll add them here. If anyone took good pictures also get in touch, I’d love to scan some in and add them.
