Nysmith School Special Events
Book Fair
The Nysmith School PTO offers two book fairs each school year: the first in the fall, and the second in the spring of the year. Volunteers staff the fair from 8:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday of Book Fair Week. Each class visits the book fair to familiarize the children with the titles available, and parents are encouraged to shop before school and after 3:30 each day. Proceeds from each book fair benefit the library. Each year, teachers prepare recommended and required summer reading lists; these books are always available at the spring book fair for the convenience of the students and parents. In addition to the wonderful selection of student reading material, there is also plenty of literature of interest to people of all ages, as well as games and manipulatives to enhance learning. Fiction and non-fiction books abound, as well as French and Spanish language books. Picture books, poetry, science, sports, and award winning literature are all available at the Nysmith book fair. This is one of our most popular events every year. Parents and children alike look forward to the book fair at Nysmith.
