Mar. 2016: Perfect Scores on National Mythology Exam

The National Mythology Exam (NME) is given to over 10,000 students in approximately 400 schools around the United States and in several foreign countries. The exam is designed to motivate students to learn about Classical Mythology and Literature. The number of questions that students must answer and variety of topics on which they are tested depends on their grade level and course of study. Our students took the required portion on basic Greek and Roman Mythology plus two extra sections; one was based on transformation myths and the other on The Aeneid: Book I.

Fifty-three Nysmith students in sixth grade took the exam.

Eighteen of those students earned perfect scores and Gold Medals: Aryann Hussain, Ishaan Kumar, Kirthi Kumar, Anna Nielsen, Lieselotte Dubert, Christopher Gaston, Ben Silverman, Taya Lasota, Andrew Jing, Jansi Patel, Grace Morgan, Vaibhav Sharma, Arman Darbar, Tarina Ahuja, Owen Krause, Sophie Rofheart, Aashna Sharma, and Yash Somaiya.

Another 16 students earned 96% or higher and Silver Medals: Cameron Sabet, Ella Subramanian, Neha Bhat, Khinezin Win, Bhavjeet Sanghera, Anusha Allamsetty, Liliana Suzuki, Alan Chang, Courtney Nguyen, Megan Wenig, Aanika Singh, Ethan Bean, Monica Saraf, Gabrielle Byas, Anna Blasdell, and Annabel Lian.

Ten students earned 90% or above and Bronze Medals: Rhea Shah, Boeun Yoon, Brian Kardan, Devin Host, Ethan Sze, Max McLaughlan, Julia Landry, Arjun Bhungalia, Kennedy Saunders, and Tad Berkery.

That translates to 83% of Nysmith students who took the NME earning awards. Only 43% of students who took the exam nationally earned awards. We are so proud of our sixth graders!
